OP-TEC Faculty Development Hybrid, Online Course – Fundamentals of Light & Lasers

As part of our efforts to provide faculty development in optics and photonics, OP-TEC has developed a hybrid, online faculty development course.  This course is being offered at no charge to high school, community college and technical college faculty interested in teaching a basic photonics course. This course covers OP-TEC’s Fundamentals of Light and Lasers and is taught online followed by a 3-day hands-on laboratory session in June 2012 at an OP-TEC partner college..
This Open Entry/Open Exit course is open October 3, 2011 through May 15, 2012.

OP-TEC Workshop on Optics & Photonics Education

In an effort to support and promote the inclusion of optics and photonics applications in secondary and postsecondary programs, OP-TEC offers a free two-day Workshop on Optics and Photonics Education. This workshop informs participants about opportunities to create new secondary-to-postsecondary programs in photonics and/or to infuse optics and photonics instruction into existing technical programs and courses in math, science and technologies enabled by photonics.
Our next workshop will be held April 5-6, 2012 at Irvine Valley College in Tustin, California.

OP-TEC Webinar on Enhancing Classroom Instruction through e-Books

As advertised at HI-TEC 2011, OP-TEC is conducting a webinar entitled "Enhancing Classroom Instruction through e-Books." This webinar is free to all participants. It demonstrates strategies for integrating e-book features into the learning process. OP-TEC's e-book, Fundamentals of Light and Lasers, is the focus of this webinar, however, participants do not need an in-depth understanding of photonics to follow the presentation. Instructional and assessment strategies are the main emphasis.

Photon Projects – New England Board of Higher Education

The PHOTON projects of the New England Board of Higher Education (NEHBE) use photonics and optics as a vehicle for improving secondary and post-secondary science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, while also setting students on real career paths encompassing several academic degree levels.  The programs focus on developing field-tested student-centered educational materials, providing science and technology teacher professional development, and facilitating relationships between academia and local industry.
