OP-TEC, TSTC, and Baylor hosted a laser optics and photonics technology room at Waco’s ScienceFest, October 1-2, 2016. Attendees explored the phenomena of diffraction and polarization with hands-on demonstrations, and had a chance to win prizes by playing the Matching Game with a dozen beautiful photos of optical phenomena from the Optical Society’s image galleries. Over 100 people played the Matching Game and OP-TEC awarded dozens of prizes. Students from Texas State Technical College’s Laser Electro-Optics Technology program presented a laser light show and a cloaking demonstration. Students and faculty from Baylor University’s Physics Department brought an electrostatic ball and demonstrated how precision optical components are used direct light. Thank you to everyone who came out and had fun learning about optics and photonics!
ScienceFest promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) through exhibitions and demonstrations that provide young and old alike to experience science through imaginative STEAM projects. The fun and excitement of science is brought to life through hands-on, interactive exhibits, science-themed performances and demonstrations, and family-oriented science entertainment. ScienceFest is a part of the Waco Cultural Arts Festival which takes place annually at the Waco Convention Center and Indian Spring Park, home to the historic suspension bridge over the Brazos River in Waco, Texas.
